CIRCANA: “DOLCE FOODSERVICE CONSUMPTION IS GROWING IN EUROPE. AND A FURTHER +6% IS EXPECTED IN 2024″

On Jaunary 21st, at Italian Exhibition Group’s SIGEP (ongoing at Rimini Expo Centre until 24th January), Circana presented the foodservice consumption figures for Europe’s big five (Italy, France, Spain, Germany, United Kingdom). Jochen Pinsker, Senior Vice-President Foodservice Europe at Circana, specified that  consumption in 2023 reached 321 billion euros, up 4% compared to the pre-Covid period. Overall visits decreased compared to 2019 by 10%, although there was a substantial difference between countries, with  downturns of 19% in the UK, 11% in Germany, 9% in France, 5% in Italy and 4% in Spain. Inflation and  reduced spending power have led consumers to forego items, move towards more affordable purchases and seek out the cheapest promotions. In any case, it is expected that 2024 will see a 6% growth in foodservice to 340 billion euros in the five major countries. Visits will also increase and, although they will not reach pre-Covid levels, an estimated +2% more than in 2023 is forecast. Development drivers include home  consumption, digitization, the social dimension and all things healthy and wellbeing.
