Coffee
Market Under
the COVID-19
U nlike anything experienced in our lifetimes,
we are experiencing COVID-19, the world has
been through dramatic changes in the past
months: tragically, many people have lost their
lives, yet the global economic recession is ongoing with the
lockdown, social distancing measurements. All of these, as
it’s been said it’s representing the steepest economic down-
turn since the Great Depression, and much worse than the
2019 Global Financial Crisis. The worst part is that we may
still not know what’s unknow, and there is substantial un-
certainty about the impact of this pandemic on our lives
and the world we live.
When it comes to the coffee consumption, back to
March, April, with the mass lockdown and social distancing,
although the closure of “coffee shop consumption” had a
notable mass shift from “out of home” consumption to “at
home” consumption heightened by panic purchasing is evi-
dent from theincrease in spot demand in retail sales, this was
creating a short-term compensation for the loss of out of
home consumption for the mature markets such like EU and
the U.S market.
